This Vegan Hip Hop Artists from Watts Just Put His Life in a Mixtape (@wattsStix)

November 16, 2017

By FuNkwoRm

We connected with hip hop artists Stix to find our more about him and the vision behind his latest mixtape, W.A.T.T.S.

IHH: When did you start taking hip hop seriously as a rapper?

Stix – I start taking Hiphop seriously when I went on my first tour. It was a tour called The Burger King King of the Court tour, and I was the opening act for Yummy Bingham, Jae Millz, and Playaz Circle a group that 2 Chainz was in. I remember we had a stop in NYC and I was terrified to perform. I remember acting like I was too busy helping with the event so I couldn’t perform. I was afraid to get boo’d plus I wasn’t prepared. After that day I vowed to always be ready!

IHH: Who were your main hip hop influences

Stix – My main Hiphop influences are Jay Z, Diddy, 2 Pac, & Snoop Dogg. They all represent a different layer of success when it comes to music and the music business. I strive to not be like them but to take notes on their progress and try and surpass the bar that they have set.

IHH: What’s the hip hop scene like in Watts?

Stix – There’s a few guys buzzing in Watts, besides myself there’s still TDE artist Jay Rock, you have Glasses Malone, battle rap God Daylyt, Producer, Songwriter, artist Kevin McCall and Diamond Lane’s BadLucc then there’s artist on the brink of popping like 03Greedo, Brick Boys (Killa Twan & Dirty Murph), R&B sensation Kenyon Dixon, and the young R&B star Mali Nicole. There’s way more like Lil Drawz, Aktive, Dusto, Black Owt etc but I’d be sitting here all day tryna name all the amazing talent out of my city

IHH: What was the vision behind the mixtape and how long have you been …read more

DOT. – “Bound 2 See” [Video]

November 15, 2017

By Kaitlin

As the old saying goes, “the road to success is never a straight line.” The same is true for artist/producer, DOT.. Originally touted as one of the top hockey prospects in North America, a shoulder injury put his career in athletics at a standstill, thus leading him to begin nurturing his love of music. Already dabbling in beat-making, a chance meeting led to him sliding his production to Violator Management’s team and from there, DOT. was off to the races. The Queens native then began landing production placements with the likes of Tony Yayo, Jim Jones and more.

From there, DOT. began navigating his way through the music industry, gaining valuable experience working with industry veterans Jean Nelson and Gee Roberson of The Blueprint Group. While there he contributed on projects for chart toppers G-Eazy and Nicki Minaj amongst others. Stepping out as an MC came organically as his mentor, the iconic Chuck D of Public Enemy, urged DOT. to strop crafting ideas for major labels and focus on his own artistry.

The end result is his forthcoming debut LP titled “Start The Hate.” Executive produced by DOT. Along with the Real Vibez music team and Vekz Madison of Reload Music, the project will be released via his Real Vibez Only imprint. The first release from the project, “Bound 2 See,” premiered in summer 2017 and peaked at #4 on the UK urban charts and at #13 on the UK pop charts. Now, with 2018 on the horizon, DOT. unveils his captivating visual for “Bound 2 See.” Speaking on the song, DOT. shared: “Bound 2 See is a record that is meant to be reflective of my current state of mind and will reinforce to fans that they can achieve what they set out to do with their lives as well as …read more

Ryan Rose – “Different Now”

November 14, 2017

By Kaitlin

Raised in the City of Brotherly Love, Ryan Rose was a cast member on season 16 of Oxygen’s hit show, “Bad Girls Club.” Known for her saucy attitude, Ryan has now moved to Los Angeles to further her music career. Today, we receive Ryan Rose’s debut body of work, Different Now.The project title and cover art hint at Ryan’s transition from Philly to L.A., and how she chose to change her hair color to compliment the move.

Every beat on the project inspired me and made me want try something new when rapping. It brought out a different sound that I’ve never done before,” Ryan shares with us.

With no features, Ryan uses the 7-track tape to prove her own versatility. Spitting boastful lines on “20K,” while dishing an anthem for the gang with “Same Crew,” Ryan’s industry glow up is on the horizon.
